Dunelm Well Drilling
About Us
Established in 2006, Dunelm Well Drilling Ltd has already established a good reputation in the drilling industry. We are corporate members of The British Drilling Association.
The main line of work is based on drilling for geothermal wells for ground source heat pumps. In addition we undertake drilling for site investigations and groundwater wells for both supply and dewatering. We also carry out other work including pumping tests, decommissioning of wells and well rehabilitation.
The site investigation work is often associated with investigation for mine workings but also includes core recovering for rock testing, examination and logging.
We have a fleet of rotary and percussive drilling rigs including track mounted rigs for difficult terrain and low headroom rotary rigs.
Water Wells
Dunelm Well Drilling have staff with over 15 years of experience in Well Drilling. Although we specialize in domestic and commercial drinking water wells, our drillers have drilled all types of wells all over the Country.
A water well is a borehole drilled in the to access water in underground aquifers. Drilled wells are typically cased with a factory-made pipe, typically steel or plastic. The casing is constructed by welding, either chemically or thermodynamically, segments of casing together. The water is drawn via an electric submersible pump. Although not essential, a storage tank with a pressure of 40-60 psi can be added to the system (after the pump), so the pump does not need to operate constantly. Wells can vary greatly in depth, water volume and water quality. Well water typically contains more minerals in solution than surface water and may require treatment to soften the water by removing minerals.
Dewatering
We have a variety of different rigs that can be used on various sites including the usually restricted access on construction sites.
In certain cases deep wells can be drilled using a re-circulated biodegradable polymer mud flush, simultaneous drilling and casing systems. Where gravels are encountered at near surface it is often preferred to use shell and auger techniques to case of the granular deposits.
Site Investigation
The site investigation is often requires the use of the shell and auger rigs or the mini percussive rig. The drilling crew are experienced in site investigation with dedicated crews for this type of drilling.
Investigations have included large chemical sites where clean drilling techniques are required down to small residential developments where restricted access requires the use of the mini percussive rig which has a width of less than 1m and is ideally suited to occupied residential developments where limited disturbance is required.
Investigation for mine workings involves drilling a series of rotary boreholes into the Coal Measures or other strata where mining has taken place. This may include mining for sandstone and other building products. The number of boreholes and depth required will involve detailed assessment of the underlying geology.
Our rigs include the following...
1 x Dando 250 (Rotary Rig)
Dando 250 mounted on a Ford County Tractor, with high flotation tyres and integral air compressors. Ideal for all types of rotary drilling and coring. Reverse circulation equipment available. Capable of drilling or coring to over 100m. 3m or 6m drill rods can be used. Drill rod make up and break out clamps installed. The drilling rig is capable of drilling boreholes in excess of 150m.
Rig Dimensions
- Height Moving 3500mm
- Length Moving 7500mm
- Width 2700mm
- Height Drilling 9560mm
- Length Drilling 6500mm
- Width 2700mm
1 x Casagrande C6(Rotary Rig)
The Casagrande C6 is a hydraulic crawler drilling rig. The C6 is dependable machine, designed and built for reliability and robustness. The C6 is a versatile machine and can be used for the construction of micropiles and anchors and in soil investigation and jet grouting.
They can be fitted with:
- Different types of mast, each with different extension pieces and components;
- Different models of rotary heads with optional hydraulic drifter or drill string chucks;
- Service winches
- Onboard flushing pumps for water, mud or foam.
- The machines are fitted with two control panels: one for traveling and mast movement controls, the other for drilling and rotary head controls.
The drilling rig is capable of drilling boreholes in excess of 150m.
Specifications:
- Drive : Tracks
- Operational Height : 6000mm, stoke of 4000mm
- Width 2260mm
- Weight 11700kg
- Winch has a 20kN pull back
1 x Beretta T25 (Low headroom Rotary Rig)
The T25 is a small low headroom rotary rig, capable of rotary coring and open hole drilling
Specifications:
- Drive : Tracks (1.0 - 1.4m width)
- Traveling Height : 1800mm
- Operational Height : 2300 + 500mm
- Traveling Length : 1900mm
- Width : 800 - 1480mm
- Weight 1700kg
- The maximum drill depth is typically 35m.

1 x Archway mini rig (Mini Percussive Drilling Rig)
Dimensions with mast retracted 2360 L x 740 W x 1270 H
Dimensions with mast elevated 2700 L x 740 W x 2400 H
Drop height is 500 or 760 mm interchangeable
Weight 740kg
Because the units are light in weight, site disturbance is minimised, making the rig ideal for use on environmentally sensitive sites. The rigs are highly mobile and maneuverable: they can be tracked up slopes and can pass through a standard domestic doorway. Sampling is achieved by a percussive method.
The weight and the drop height are adjustable, enabling Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) to be carried out as well as soil sampling.Rig Dimensions
